Profile: Kristin Allan, Social Media volunteer
“I am a medical sciences student at the University of Exeter, and I began volunteering at the Exeter and East Devon branch of the MND Association in September 2017. Since starting, I have been a member of the social media team, working with other volunteers to help raise awareness of MND and of our branch through using various social media platforms. Recently, I joined the branch’s newsletter team, which has been a great opportunity to expand my experience.
I began volunteering for the organisation due to my interest in medicine, in particular neurology, and I wanted to combine knowledge of social media with my academic interests. Everyone at the branch was extremely welcoming as soon as I had started which made volunteering here even more enjoyable.
Going forward, I hope the charity continue to raise awareness and educate others about all aspects of motor neuron disease. I believe that by acknowledging a variety of topics, from patient lifestyle changes to the cutting-edge research being performed, we can improve public engagement and support for such a fantastic charity.”
